Item Details
Africa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kwilu River Region, Pende Peoples 20th century. An incised vessel or container with threaded twine run through and a central circular carved section with geometric incised patterns. The interior with a rim and key hole slot has remnants of orange or red pigment possibly indicating use for storing pigments. Size 5 3/4" H
The Pende people are renowned for their artistic expression, especially their masks and sculptures. They create a variety of art used for rituals, ceremonies, and performances. These art is often characterized by bold geometric patterns, strong lines, and contrasting colors.. Condition: Overall surface wear and scratches throughout, losses to threading and container commensurate with age.. Provenance: Collected prior to 2008, ex-Lacy Gallery (Vanna & Lee Lacy collection), Los Angeles CA. Lacy Gallery was founded upon six decades of collecting ethnographic and fine art. Lee Lacy was a distinguished Hollywood producer of iconic TV series and commercials.

Invoices will be remitted to email addresses on file and can be paid via the email link, mailed in check or over the phone. Payment is required by the Buyer within 3 days immediately following the completion of the sale. The Buyer agrees to pay the hammer price plus the buyer's premium as well as any applicable sales tax. ALL JEWELRY OR ITEMS CONTAINING PRECIOUS METAL MUST REMIT PAYMENT VIA check, money order or wire transfer only. All lots are sold as is with no representation of age, condition or description. Absence of condition does not imply perfect or free of flaws including cracks, damage, tears or other possible imperfections. By participating in this auction bidders agree that all lots are sold as is without any warrants or representations with respect to the lots. The auctioneer retains the right to reject any bid and to withdraw or pass any lot at his or her absolute discretion. When identical absentee bids are submitted the auctioneer will accept the first bid presented at his or her discretion. The highest bidder as determined by the auction house shall be responsible to pay for the hammer, buyer's premium and any applicable sales tax. Ownership of lots shall not be transitioned to the respective winning bidder until the auction house is satisfied with all funds being transferred and cleared to the auction house's account. All sales are final. Buyers have 10 days to arrange for removal of lots from the auction houses facility. After 10 days the auction house reserves the right to charge a $5 storage fee for each additional day until the lots have been removed. The auction house reserves the right to relist and sell any lots which have accrued a storage fee larger than the hammer plus buyer's premium total for a given lot. Shipping and safe delivery of the lots is the buyer's responsibility. The auction house reserves the right to update or remove any lot listed at the auction house's discretion.
